The Albright College softball team suffered a walk-off loss in the opener as the Lions were swept by crosstown rival Alvernia on Thursday, 1-0 and 10-2.
Junior
Stephanie Romano pitched a great game in the opener and was unlucky to take the loss, scattering three hits in six-plus innings, striking out four and allowing just one unearned run.
The Lions unraveled defensively in the bottom of the seventh however, as
Felicia McKenna singled and then advanced on a two-base error.
Deanna Dungee reached on another error, and two illegal pitches allowed the lead runner to come around for the 1-0 Crusader victory.
Juniors
Brandy Lagomarsino and
Kiersten Gilfoy each were 1-2 at the plate for Albright, while McKenna was 2-for-3.
Alvernia's
Brittanie Wolfe took both victories, allowing four hits in a complete-game shutout before going four innings in the nightcap to improve to 12-0 on the year.
Lagomarsino was 1-for-3 with a run scored in game two, while
Natalie Carlucci went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The Lions had a 2-0 lead after the top of the third, where Lagomarsino scored on an error after a bunt single, and Carlucci singled in
Jackie Bohanan.
Alvernia opened things up with three in the bottom of the third and seven runs an inning later however. McKenna was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, while
Shannon Grim (3-for-3) had two RBIs and two runs.
The doubleheader was a clash of two sisters as Albright head coach Izzy Trottier faced off against Alvernia head coach
Lindsay Berger.
Albright is 4-12, 0-6 and will host Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday.
