Mel Sullivan curled in a free kick just 82 seconds into overtime as the Albright College women's soccer team prevailed 3-2 in extra time, Thursday at Delaware Valley.
After a scoreless half, the Lions struck twice in a span of 22 seconds, within the first five minutes of the second period.
Senior
Jordan Cassidy had a role in both goals, breaking down the side and crossing to sophomore
Erin Hand for the opener, then feeding fellow senior
Alex Talbot as the Lions won possession right off the kickoff.
The Aggies rallied however, with two goals from
Mary Taylor to bring them back into the game. Taylor ran onto
Kara Fecanin's through ball to make it 2-1, then tied it in the 74th minute off a nice pass from
Marianne Morton.
Sullivan's chance came in the second minute of overtime, after DVC committed a foul just outside the penalty area. The junior curled a perfect shot into the top corner for the golden goal.
Freshman
Jaymee Stepp made her first career start and earned the win for the second consecutive game, making four saves after halftime (and six total).
The Lions improve to 3-2 on the season and will host DeSales University next Tuesday.
