Sullivan Fires Lions Past DVC in Overtime

Box Score

Junior Mel Sullivan curled in a free kick just 82 seconds into overtime as the Albright College women's soccer team prevailed 3-2 in extra time, Thursday at Delaware Valley.

After a scoreless half, the Lions struck twice in a span of 22 seconds, within the first five minutes of the second period.

Senior Jordan Cassidy had a role in both goals, breaking down the side and crossing to sophomore Erin Hand for the opener, then feeding fellow senior Alex Talbot as the Lions won possession right off the kickoff.

The Aggies rallied however, with two goals from Mary Taylor to bring them back into the game. Taylor ran onto Kara Fecanin's through ball to make it 2-1, then tied it in the 74th minute off a nice pass from Marianne Morton.

Sullivan's chance came in the second minute of overtime, after DVC committed a foul just outside the penalty area. The junior curled a perfect shot into the top corner for the golden goal.

Freshman Jaymee Stepp made her first career start and earned the win for the second consecutive game, making four saves after halftime (and six total).

The Lions improve to 3-2 on the season and will host DeSales University next Tuesday.
