The Albright College women's tennis team lost its first match of the season on Wednesday, but was still competitive despite playing up a division, falling 6-3 to Kutztown University.
The Lady Lions stepped up to the challenge of nearby rival, Division II Kutztown. In singles competition, Albright was victorious in two of the six matches played.
Albright's
Victoria Foanio defeated
Hannah Pipkin in two sets, winning the opening game 6-4 followed by a closer set of 7-6.
Christina Peacock defeated Kutztown's
Cynthia Good in three sets, with scores consisting of 6-2, 4-6, and 6-2. Elizabeth Bengston came out strong in her match against Kutztown's
Emily Troast, but could not hold onto the lead, losing in the third set.
In doubles competition Albright was able to defeat Kutztown in one of the three matches. Foanio and
Alyssa Sell defeated Kutztown's Pipkin and
Ridhima Borooah in a 8-4 set. Peacock and
Lauren Sperling played a competitive set against Kutztown's Troast and Good, losing 8-6.
The Lions' tennis team, currently 2-1 on the season, will return to action this weekend in the ITA Regionals.
