The Commonwealth Conference has had two women's basketball teams in the national polls all year, and Albright will head to face #20 Lebanon Valley on Saturday after playing #8 Messiah tough in a loss earlier this season.
Previous Meeting
Albright started well in both their games last season against nationally-ranked LVC before falling off.
The Lions hung with LVC in the first half of a 74-42 home defeat with great outside shooting. Freshman
Amanda Tiritilli was a perfect 6-for-6, including 5-of-5 from behind the arc for the first 19-plus minutes of action, only breaking her perfect half with a last-minute forced three-point attempt that was blocked. She had 17 points at the break, and finished the game 6-for-8 from the field. Her five threes were two short of the Albright record for an entire game.
Senior
Jenny Knoebel banked in a three on Albright's opening possession to make it 3-2, and despite LVC baskets on their first three chances, it was 6-6 on Tiritilli's first trey of the afternoon. The freshman hit another three-pointer to put Albright up 9-6, and soon drained a long three with a hand in her face to make it 14-10.
Liz Borgia pulled LVC to within one with a three, but Tiritilli drove to the left and pulled up for a jumper that made it 16-13 Lions.
In a 74-48 loss at LVC, Tara Sabotchik's three-pointer from the left corner got the Lions on the board, and
Kari Ludy's long two rolled around the rim before dropping into keep Albright within a point at 6-5. Sabotchik answered an LVC basket with a drive for two that put the Lions ahead 12-8, and a nice backdoor cut by Ludy soon made it 14-10 Albright before the Dutchmen took over and pulled away.
Albright College Lions (7-7, 3-4 Commonwealth)
The Lions soundly defeated Hood 73-52 at home on Wednesday to break a three-game losing streak and move into the fifth and final playoff spot in the Commonwealth Conference.
Freshman
Kelecia Harris was 7-of-12 from the floor and totaled 15 points and 16 rebounds for an emphatic double-double. She also had four steals and two blocked shots. Albright's bigs were solid all around as junior
Meghan Boyle had 11 points, eight boards and four assists, and freshman
Emily O'Donnell added 12 points and seven rebounds.
In her freshman season, Harris ranks third in the conference in rebounding (9.6), first in field goal percentage (.574), second in blocks (1.2) and 12th in steals (1.7).
Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (12-2, 6-1 Commonwealth)
The two time defending Commonwealth champions are 12-2 after going to the Sweet 16 last season, defeating Vassar and Mt. St. Mary at home in the NCAA tournament before losing to Mary Washington.
The Dutchmen are second in the nation in rebounding margin, pulling down 15.6 more boards per game than their opponents. They are also 14th in field goal percentage at 44.0% (Albright is 13th at 44.3%). Four players are in double-figures for LVC:
Kiely Chaklos (13.2 ppg),
Tierney Hiltz (12.3),
Renee Fritz (10.5) and
Caitlin Bach (10.5).
