The Albright College men's basketball team hosts the defending Commonwealth Conference champions, and the team that ended their season last year, when the Lions host Messiah on Saturday in the Bollman Center. A “Coaches vs. Cancer” Fundraiser will also be held.

Albright College Lions (15-3, 8-3 Commonwealth)

Led by five players in double figures, including redshirt junior Pedro Perez who had a career high 24 points, the Lions were able to down Arcadia 86-76 in front of their home crowd on Wednesday.

Perez was joined by seniors Dave Singleton (15 points) and Cornell Mickens (12 points) and juniors Sam Marrella (10 points) and Reuel Moore (10 points) in double figures to lead the Lions to victory. To go along with his 15 points, Singleton pulled down 13 rebounds and was an assist away from a triple-double as he ended the game with nine.

Singleton was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week after two outstanding performances last week vs. Lycoming and Widener, and will look to fill the box score for a fifth straight time after sandwiching that week with near-triple-doubles (he had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists vs. Lebanon Valley two weeks ago).

Messiah College Falcons (11-6, 7-4 Commonwealth)

The Falcons are defending Commonwealth champions, and beat Albright 70-65 in overtime of last year's conference semifinals. Despite losing first team All-Conference forward David Fernandez to injury, Messiah is still hanging around this year and would move into a tie for second place with a win vs. the Lions.

Junior Brad Bolen has taken over the main scoring responsibilities, totaling 16.9 points per game. He and Scott Bolen (5.6 ppg) are one of two Falcon brother pairings, along with Derek Mosley (11.8 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Dan Mosley (3.6 ppg, 24 assists).

Coaches vs. Cancer

At the Albright-Messiah men's basketball game, the squads will be participating in “Coaches vs. Cancer” weekend, with proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society. Coaches from both teams will be wearing suits and sneakers to mark the fundraiser.

From January 25-27 more than 4,000 college and high school basketball coaches across the United States will be making much more than just a fashion statement when they sport tennis shoes with their suits during the 10th annual Suits and Sneakers weekend.

Suits and Sneakers weekend is an annual event coordinated by the Coaches vs. Cancer program, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The Coaches vs. Cancer program empowers basketball and other athletic coaches to save lives from cancer by leveraging their community leadership to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.

This year, Coaches vs. Cancer is giving fans a chance to get in on the action and support the fight against cancer. Fans who donate $5 to Coaches vs. Cancer by texting the word “Coach” to 20222 any time between January 21 and April 9 will be entered for a chance to win one of several exclusive prizes, like a free trip to the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic or autographed items from top coaches like Wisconsin's Bo Ryan, Gonzaga's Mark Few and Stanford's Johnny Dawkins. Visit coachesvscancer.org or “like” Coaches vs. Cancer on Facebook for the most up-to-date information about Suits and Sneakers.
