The Albright College men's basketball team was out-scored 43-32 after halftime as Elizabethtown left the Bollman Center with a 73-63 victory on Saturday.
Junior
Kyle Jordan scored 15 after halftime and finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals total. Classmate
Pedro Perez was also in double-figures with 13 points.
A tight first half saw seven ties and five lead changes, and ended with a tough drive from
Phil Venger in the final seconds to keep Etown within a point at the break, 31-30.
An early dunk by Jordan highlighted the first half, and nice drives from
Cornell Mickens and
Sam Marrella had the Lions up 12-7 after seven-plus minutes.
Mickens swished a step-back shot to break a 15-15 tie, but
Andrew Mantz answered with a put-back at the other end. The Lions broke a 21-21 deadlock with six straight points, ending with a fast break that went from Singleton to Jordan to Perez for the finish.
The Blue Jays'
Ryan Borzager broke the run with a three-pointer, and
Lee Eckert's third-chance banker after two offensive rebounds pushed them into a 28-27 lead. Albright went up 31-28 after Benjamin converted on the break, leading to Venger's last-second hoop to end the half.
Etown's
Ben Cable caught fire in the second half, sinking a three-pointer to give his side a 38-35 lead. He then missed a three but Borzager got the rebound and swished the put-back for a five-point advantage.
Singleton's steal and lay-in with 9:10 left kept the Lions close at 54-52.
Andre Marshall's baseline dunk soon made it 58-54 Elizabethtown.
Cable came up big again, converting a three-point play with four minutes left that gave the Blue Jays a 61-56 lead.
Cable finished with 23 points, while Mantz added nine points and eight rebounds despite playing in foul trouble throughout the second half.
The Lions are 11-2, 4-2, and remain one game behind Lycoming for first place in the Commonwealth Conference after the Warriors lost to Widener today. Albright hosts Hood on Wednesday in another league battle.
