Box Score
The Albright College women's soccer team was eliminated from Commonwealth Conference playoff contention with a disappointing 4-1 loss, Tuesday at Alvernia.
Albright would need to beat defending national champions Messiah on Saturday and get two other results to go their way just to force a tie for the fifth and final spot with Stevenson, Alvernia and Lebanon Valley. The Lions have just a 1-2 head-to-head record in that best-case scenario however.
The Red and White had qualified for two consecutive Commonwealth Conference and ECAC South tournament appearances.
Senior
Mel Sullivan converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to give Albright a chance, down 2-1.
The Lions couldn't keep the momentum however, as they conceded a goal to
Bri McGrath just 86 seconds later. Alvernia would add a 90th minute tally as well.
The Crusaders led at halftime, with
Hannah Mallets converting the only shot on goal of a slow first half.
McGrath's cross found
Laura Mauroschadt to make it 2-0 early in the second half, before the Lions briefly got back into the game.
Albright (7-8-2, 3-4-1) will host Messiah on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., in the final career game for seniors
Jena Muller,
Stephanie Przybyszewski and Sullivan.
