The Albright College men's basketball team looks for its first victory of the 2013-14 season with a short trip across town to Penn State-Berks.
Previous Meeting
The Lions opened up a big second half lead and held off a late surge, defeating Penn State- Berks 80-71 last Thanksgiving weekend.
Senior
Dave Singleton finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in 30 minutes of action. He also had three steals; all four totals were game-highs.
Junior
Pedro Perez sank 6-of-10 shots for 13 points, while adding eight rebounds. Classmates
Sam Marrella (14 points) and
Kyle Jordan (six points, nine rebounds) also contributed.
The Nittany Lions chipped away at a 20-point second half deficit, cutting the gap to 10 on
Mike Porter's three, and then to 73-65 after
Jeff Schmidt followed an Albright turnover with a basket.
Dameon Nixon's fast break lay-in made it 75-69 Albright with just over two minutes to play.
Zach Benjamin answered with a crucial put-back after the Lions' initial attempt bounced off the rim.
Schmidt had 17 points and seven rebounds for Penn State-Berks, while
Tom Smith had 11 points and nine boards.

Albright is 6-0 all-time against Penn State-Berks, having played them each season dating back to 2007-08.

The Lions didn't get the start to the season that they wanted, falling off early in a 101-51 loss at NCAA tournament qualifier Wesley.
Kyle Jordan led the team in points (eight), assists (three) and steals (two). Sophomore
Calvert Gantz added six points as he stepped into a starting center role; freshman
Sameen Swint started in his first collegiate contest.
Penn State-Berks Nittany Lions (0-2)
PSU-Berks is 0-2 after loses to Gwynedd-Mercy (90-53) and Immaculata (78-70). The Nittany Lions finished last season on a 13-5 run after seven-game skid to open the year.
Christian Burggraf, a member of the Albright team last year as a freshman, has started both games this season for Berks. He is averaging 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 28 minutes per game.
