Following a huge win over Alvernia, the Albright College men's basketball team faces another rival with a home contest against Lebanon Valley College.
Last Time Out
The Lions held off local rival Alvernia and moved into a tie for first place on Wednesday with a thrilling 57-54 road victory. Albright (17-3, 10-3) and Alvernia (15-4, 10-3) now share first place in the Commonwealth Conference, two games clear of the field with five games left in the regular season.
In front of a boisterous crowd of 1,712 fans, Albright senior
Dave Singleton finished with a double-double, totaling 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Kyle Jordan had 11 points and six boards, while senior center
Zach Benjamin added six points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
Albright College Lions (17-3, 10-3 Commonwealth)
The Lions are receiving votes in the national polls, and hope to find themselves in the top-25 in the coming weeks if they can sustain their current five-game winning streak.
Jordan leads the team with 23 blocks, while scoring 11.1 points per contest and pulling down 6.3 rebounds. Singleton (15.4 ppg) and junior
Pedro Perez (12.9 ppg) are also in double-figures this season for the Red and White.
Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (7-13, 4-9 Commonwealth)
Both of today's teams have had a player on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week this year. Singleton earned the honor two weeks ago, while LVC's
Danny Brooks was featured in the opening installment of the season. That week, Brooks had 30 points to go with 13 boards against No. 4 Middlebury, and also added 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a win over NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier Staten Island.
Brooks leads the Commonwealth Conference in scoring (19.7 ppg), and pulls down a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game. Point guard
Kevin Agnew leads the Dutchmen in assists (57) and steals (29), while adding 11.2 points per contest.
Jim Hoopes Tribute
Jim Hoopes, one of Albright basketball's all-time leading rebounders, will be honored at halftime following his untimely passing this fall at the age of 40.
A New Jersey State Trooper for 14 years, Hoopes graduated Albright in 1994, and still holds the school record for career rebounds per game (9.2). His 913 total rebounds ranks second in school history, and his 82 blocks are fourth-highest ever by a Lion.
Hoopes pulled down 12.6 rpg as a junior in 1992-93, which is still an Albright single-season record. The Lions finished first in the MAC Northern division during the regular season that year. An All-MAC selection in 1993-94, Hoopes was named to Albright Men's Basketball All-Century Team.
Jim will be recognized by family, friends, and former teammates on February 2, and a plaque will be presented in his memory.
