Clinging to their playoff hopes after a big win this week, the Albright College women's basketball team is set for another tough clash with the 21st-ranked Lebanon Valley Dutchmen. Tipoff for the game is set for 2 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
Previous Meeting
Ranked 20th in the nation at the time of the first meeting between Albright and Leb Val, the Dutchmen took care of business, handing the Lady Lions a 69-51 defeat. Lebanon Valley had a quick start in the first half that the Red and White just could not compete with, leading 20-4 after eight minutes.
Kari Ludy led Albright in scoring with 16 points, while freshman
Emily O'Donnell added 13 points and three steals. Freshman
Kelecia Harris only dropped two points, but was able to pull down seven rebounds in an effort to keep Albright in the game.
Albright College Lions (9-11, 5-8 Commonwealth)
The Lady Lions are coming off a huge 23-point victory over cross-city rival Alvernia, 68-45. The win keeps Albright's playoff hopes very much alive as they move into a tie with Lycoming for the fifth and final playoff spot.
Harris has been the go-to player for the Lady Lions this season, averaging a double-double with 11.7 ppg and 10.1 rpg. She has also averaged more than a steal per game this season, with 1.6.
The Lions' playoff fate lies in their own hands throughout the rest of the season. With games left against Lycoming and Elizabethtown, the Lions have to continue winning if they hope to sneak into the Commonwealth tournament.
Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (17-3, 11-2 Commonwealth)
The Dutchmen have already clinched a spot in the Commonwealth Conference tournament, with their only conference blemishes coming against Widener and nationally-ranked Messiah.
Lebanon Valley has four women who are scoring in double-figures, led by senior
Tierney Hiltz (12.8 ppg). Joining her are
Kiely Chaklos (12.7 ppg),
Caitlin Bach (11.9 pgg), and
Renee Fritz (10.9 ppg).
Lebanon Valley enters the contest with Albright on a modest two-game winning streak, with victories over Elizabethtown and Hood. Before their loss to Widener last week, the Dutchmen had a seven-game winning streak to their credit.
