The Albright College men's basketball team looks to end a two-game skid and clinch a home playoff game with a Tuesday trip to Lycoming.
Commonwealth Playoff Picture
After two straight Albright losses, Alvernia (13-3) is on the cusp on clinching home-court advantage for the playoffs. Albright (11-5) still holds a two-game lead on the rest of the field with two games to go however.
Lycoming (9-7) is alone in third place and could avoid the 4/5 play-in game with two victories this week. Stevenson, Hood, Arcadia and defending champion Messiah are all 8-8 however, so a Warrior loss could throw them right back into a tie for the final places.
Previous Meeting
After 18 lead changes,
Zach Benjamin scored with 12:18 to go, putting Albright up for good in an 83-78 victory over Lycoming in the Bollman Center.
A 9-0 run put Albright up 73-65, and Singleton drained a step-back jumper with 58 seconds left to make it 81-75.
All five of the Albright starters were in double-figures, including Singleton with 25 points (11-for-16) and 12 rebounds.
Pedro Perez (16 points),
Kyle Jordan (13 points), Benjamin (12 points) and
Sam Marrella (11 points) also contributed. Lycoming got 61 of its 78 points from
Anthony Martin (12-for-19, 28 points),
Chris Foreman (9-for-14, 21 points) and
Ihsaan Davis (12 points).
Albright College Lions (18-5, 11-5 Commonwealth)
The Lions are ranked #2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, but will see that number drop after losing to Hood and Stevenson last week. Senior
Dave Singleton set a new school record with 54 steals in a season, and his 186 career steals (including two seasons at Division I High Point) is more than any Albright player ever. He needs 18 points to reach 900 for his career.
Junior guard Marrella has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.67, while classmates Perez (13.0 ppg) and Jordan (11.1 ppg) are scoring in double-figures for the Lions. Benjamin and
Cornell Mickens (4.9 ppg), along with Singleton, are looking to clinch at least one more home game in their senior season.
Lycoming College Warriors (15-8, 9-7 Commonwealth)
Lycoming senior point guard
Jerald Williams leads the nation with 10.1 assists per game, and needs eight more to reach 100 for his career. He is also two steals away from equaling the school single-season record and moving into the top-10 in NCAA Division III career history.
Also playing in their final regular season home game tonight will be guard Anthony Martin (16.6 ppg) and forward Ihsaan Davis (8.6 ppg), along with guard
John Ryan Wolff (14 appearances this year).
