Box Score
Freshman
Kelecia Harris had 26 points and 20 rebounds as the Albright College women's basketball team pulled away in the second half, beating Hood 60-47 on Wednesday in Frederick, Md.
Harris' 20 rebounds is tied for sixth all-time at Albright. Her 26 points were the most by a Lion since
Bre Dillon dropped 29 against Messiah, back in February, 2009. Both statistics were career-highs.
Junior
Meghan Boyle just missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds, while sophomore
Tara Sabotchick added 11 points.
Albright went on a 19-1 run to break open a 35-35 game. That included 16 straight points, kicked off by a
Kari Ludy basket with exactly 10 minutes to play, followed by a Ludy assist to Harris.
After two free throws from Boyle, Harris scored three consecutive baskets to give Albright a 54-36 advantage.
The Lions struggled a bit in the first half, committing 17 turnovers and shooting 37.5% from the field. The Lions did go into halftime with a 23-20 lead, after Boyle pulled down a Hood miss in the dying seconds and Sabotchick took it coast-to-coast for a basket.
While Harris was 3-for-9 with four turnovers before the break, she again threatened a first half double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. That included a three-point play with 1:33 remaining, as the freshman recorded seven of Albright final 11 points before halftime. She would then go on to eclipse a double-double in the second period (17 pts, 11 reb).
After
Jessica Venturelli opened the day's scoring with a three-pointer, Hood responded with a 10-0 run that was capped by a
Rachel Kessler three and an
Emily Maerz jumper.
Down 16-7, Sabotchick soon pulled Albright to within four with a basket, and the Lions came all the way back to tie 18-18 on another hoop from the sophomore guard.
The Blazers had another run to start the second half, this time 9-0. Out of a timeout, Ludy kept things alive with an offensive rebound, and Boyle hit two free throws for Albright's first points of the period.
Dyanna Prater had a team-high 13 points for Hood, while
Rachel Wiley added six points and eight rebounds.
Albright improves to 10-12, 6-9 and moves into a tie for the fifth and final Commonwealth playoff spot with Lycoming, who lost a close game to nationally-ranked Lebanon Valley. The Lions will look to keep pace on Saturday, as they host Stevenson in their final home game of the season.
