Box Score
A three-point play by
Christian Roberts with 18 seconds left gave Stevenson an 82-81 lead and shocked the Albright College men's basketball team, Saturday in the Bollman Center.
Junior
Pedro Perez drained a three-pointer with exactly one minute remaining for a 79-76 lead, but Roberts answered with a pull-up three-pointer.
Senior
Dave Singleton hit a big pull-up jumper to make it 81-79 Albright with 43 seconds left, but Roberts' three-point play proved to be the winning points.
Singleton had 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and could have had a triple-double in the final seconds, but his pass to Perez resulted in a block by Stevenson's
Stefon McCray.
Singleton also could have won the game at the buzzer, as his three-point heave was inches long and went off the back rim.
On his Senior Day, center
Zach Benjamin had 15 points and nine boards. Perez (13 points),
Kyle Jordan (13 points) and
Sam Marrella (11 points) were also in double-figures. Albright's final senior,
Cornell Mickens, had five points on the day.
A pair of good fast breaks gave Albright a 43-34 lead early in the second half. Marrella then drained a three pointer to make it 49-38.
With Albright threatening to pull away, Roberts sank three straight treys over a four-possession span to cut the gap to 56-55.
Stevenson inched ahead on McCray's and-one, but Marrella's triple restored a 63-62 Albright lead. Benjamin threw down a dunk, and Singleton found
Reuel Moore on the break as the Lions led by three heading into the finish.
Jordan scored twice early to put Albright up 6-3. Perez hit a corner three later in the first half for a 21-15 lead, and the Lions led 35-30 at the break.
Roberts had a massive day for Stevenson, scoring 33 points and making 7-of-13 three-pointers. McCray added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Albright (18-5, 11-5) falls two games behind rival Alvernia at the top of the Commonwealth standings, but can still clinch a home playoff semifinal with a victory on Tuesday at Lycoming.
