The Albright College softball team opened Commonwealth Conference play on Wednesday, losing 9-1 and 11-1 on the road versus Messiah.
In the opener, junior
Hillary Rodriguez was 2-for-3. Freshman
Emily O'Donnell was 1-for-2 with a run scored, while
Kiersten Gilfoy had an RBI.
Rodriguez tagged a double in the Lions' first ups, but it was all Albright could manage in a scoreless first inning. Freshman
Elizabeth McBride had a hit in the second, but again the Lions couldn't get a rally going.
Messiah plated three runs in the bottom of the second, with RBI hits from
Amanda Fife,
Nicole Blantz and
Sarah Dietrich. They tacked on two more in the fourth and fifth.
Down 7-0, O'Donnell doubled in the fifth and Gilfoy brought her home. Albright had loaded the bases in the previous inning, but left empty-handed after a double-play.
In the nightcap, Gilfoy was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Rodriguez was 1-for-3. Sophomore
Natalie Carlucci was 1-for-1 with an RBI, and took a walk.
Messiah only needed four innings at the plate, scoring twice in the second, six times in the third, and three times in the fourth to win.
Senior
Allie Frank (game one) and freshman
Aubrey Koch (game two) were the starting pitchers for Albright (1-9), who will travel to Penn State-Harrisburg tomorrow.
