Two freshmen hit grand slams as the Albright College softball team swept a doubleheader at Penn State-Harrisburg on Friday, winning 13-4 and 7-2.
The Lions totaled 24 hits and 20 runs over two emphatic offensive performances. They improve to 3-9 on the season heading into a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley tomorrow.
In the opener, sophomore
Natalie Carlucci was 4-for-4 with five RBIs, a home run, and two runs scored. She also reached base a sixth time on a walk.
Freshman
Elizabeth McBride was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a grand slam. Also recording multiple hits was freshman
Shelby Snyder (2-for-4, two runs).
Yet another rookie,
Aubrey Koch, earned the complete game victory on the mound. She also knocked in two runs to help her cause.
Albright led just 3-2 in the top of the fifth but proceeded to score 10 unanswered runs to blow the game open.
Hillary Rodriguez reached on an error, Carlucci singled, and
Jackie Bohanan walked. McBride then cleared them with a four-run homer over the left field field.
The Lions had another four-run inning in the top of the seventh. Carlucci knocked in
Emily O'Donnell, who scored on Koch's single. Bohanan also had an RBI hit in the inning.
Koch had a big day at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam of her own. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Senior
Allie Frank earned the win on the mound, striking out nine over seven innings, with both of her runs being unearned.
Koch's grand slam also came in the fifth inning, and scored Bohanan, Carlucci and Rodriguez.
