The Albright College softball team earned its first Commonwealth Conference victory of the season, splitting a home doubleheader with Arcadia on Tuesday.
The Lions held on for a 4-3 decision in game one, before dropping the nightcap 11-4 in six innings.
In the opener,
Kiersten Gilfoy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while
Jackie Bohanan was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Freshman
Emily O'Donnell delivered the winning hit, with a two-out, pinch-hit single in the bottom of the sixth to score
Marguerite DeLucas.
Marissa Perez,
Nicole Larro,
Ashley John and
Alicia McMahon all singled to half a 4-0 deficit and put runners on the corners with no out. Senior pitcher
Allie Frank got a big strikeout, and
Natalie Carlucci and
Shelby Snyder turned a 3-6 double play to end the game (with a third Arcadia run scoring in the process).
Carlucci had snuck a single to left in the bottom of the first inning to score Gilfoy. Gilfoy would also lead off the third with a single and a stolen base, and came around on Bohanan's hit. Snyder also scored on the play to put Albright up 4-0.
Frank struck out six in a complete-game effort, improving to 2-6 on the season.
Arcadia chased Albright starter
Aubrey Koch in the second game, scoring five times in the top of the first.
With the bases loaded, Bohanan singled in Snyder, and DeLucas knocked in Bohanan and Carlucci as Albright cut the deficit to 5-3. Arcadia would tack on three more in the second however to pull away.
DeLucas was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Game Two, while Bohanan was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Albright is 4-16, 1-7 on the season, and hosts Stevenson in a re-scheduled doubleheader on Thursday.
