Softball Splits as Five Seniors Play Final Doubleheader

Game One Box
Game Two Box

The Albright College softball team split a doubleheader with Lycoming on Saturday, celebrating Senior Day with their final 2013 games.

Allie Frank, Kiersten Gilfoy, Brandy Lagomarsino, Nikki Schwenk and Miriah Wilson were all in the starting lineup for their final contests in the Red and White, who won 3-2 before dropping the nightcap 11-6.

The opening game came down to the wire. Wilson and Lagomarsino reached in the bottom of the sixth and Natalie Carlucci was intentionally walked to load the bases. A throwing error allowed both Wilson and Lagomarsino to score, putting Albright ahead 3-2.

In Lyco's final chance Schwenk forced the third out but the call was reversed after some discussion, bringing the teams back onto the field with the bases loaded. Frank responded well, getting a called third strike for the win.

Carlucci hit a bomb in the bottom of the second, clearing the centerfield fence by 30 feet to tie the game at 1-1. It was her eighth homer of the season, one short of the Albright single season record. Lagomarsino also stole a bag in each game, leaving her just one shy of the school career mark (47).

Frank had walked two batters in the top of the first, but Schwenk made two putouts to end the threat. Ally Marianelli singled in her sister Nikki Marianelli to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth, setting up the Lions' rally.

Carlucci was 1-for-2 on the day, as was Wilson. Frank struck out four to earn her seventh victory of the season.

Albright attempted to rally again in game two. Down 5-1 in the fifth, Hillary Rodriguez's double down the line brought Jackie Bohanan home. Shelby Snyder later singled in Rodriguez and Wilson to make it a one run game. The Warriors would answer with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth however, keeping the Red and White at bay.

Snyder had doubled in Lagomarsino in the bottom of the fourth. Lycoming had led 4-0 before that point, including a solo homer from Amy Cline.

Snyder was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the second game. Lagomarsino was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

The Lions finish the season at 10-27, 3-15.
