Game Two Box
The Albright College softball team traveled to Fredrick, Maryland for a doubleheader on Saturday with new conference foe Hood College. The Lady Lions could not bring a win home, however, dropping the first game 5-4 in nine innings and the second 6-3.
In the opener, Hood manufactured two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and one in the bottom of the ninth to claim the victory.
After each pitcher scattered hits through the first two and a half innings, Hood finally got on the board in the third, using a hit and two errors by the Albright defense to score the first runs of the game and give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Albright would use a home run by
Marguerite DeLucas in the fourth, two RBI singles by
Natalie Carlucci and
Jackie Bohanan in the fifth, and a Hilary Rodriguez groundout to answer back and take a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hood had a plethora of singles to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Hood second baseman
Casey Dunn hit a long sacrifice fly to bring her team within one run, 4-3.
The next batter,
Amy Hagerdon, would tie the game with another single for the Blazers and send the game into extra innings.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Hood's
Jackie Yurchak launched a walk-off home run to give her team the game one victory.
Aubrey Koch took the unfortunate loss for the Lady Lions in the first game. Koch went 8.1 innings with three strikeouts and only one walk.
In the second game, the third inning proved to be deadly for Albright as Hood used five hits and two errors to score all six of their runs.
Albright jumped out to an early lead as they were able to score runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
In the second, Carlucci was able to beat out a single to third base and put herself in a position to score, which she did on a wild pitch to give Albright a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions would tack on another run in the third inning as designated hitter
Elizabeth McBride singled and would score later in the inning on a Hood error.
Albright's final run of the day would come in the fifth inning after singles from
Miriah Wilson and Rodriguez put runners on first and second, Carlucci blasted a double that allowed Wilson to cross the plate.
With the losses, Albright falls to 5-19 overall and 2-10 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Lady Lions will host the Cougars of Misericordia University on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
