The Albright College softball team was swept at home on Monday, by defending Freedom Conference champion Misericordia University.
Albright dropped game one 3-1, despite a 2-for-3 performance by
Marguerite DeLucas. Freshman
Shelby Snyder was 2-for-4.
The Lions earned their run in the fifth inning, after senior
Brandy Lagomarsino singled and stole second. Misericordia's
Caitlin Cromley made a diving catch to rob Snyder, but Carlucci singled home Lagomarsino with two outs.
Snyder had an infield single in the first and then stole second on the play, but was thrown out trying to take third base.
Misericordia opened the scoring in the top of the second, loading the bases to set up
Jen Cory's RBI on an error. Lion pitcher
Allie Frank got a strikeout with the bases still juiced to avoid further damage.
Cory had another RBI in the top of the fourth to score
Jess Armillay, and MU went up 3-0 after another run scored on an error.
Snyder nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, giving it a ride with a runner on, but the ball died at the warning track.
The Cougars went up 5-0 in the top of the first in the nightcap, and eventually won 12-3 in six innings.
Sophomore
Natalie Carlucci launched a pair of solo homers, including one in the bottom of the first. DeLucas also knocked in Lagomarsino in that inning.
Trailing 10-2 with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the fifth, Carlucci extended the game with a solo shot to left field, her fifth homer of the season.
Albright falls to 5-21 on the year, and will host Rosemont on Wednesday.
