The Albright College men's and women's teams face similar situations this Wednesday, as they conclude the first half of league play with a crucial mid-table battle against the team that ended their Commonwealth championship hopes a year ago.

Commonwealth Conference Standings

Albright currently sits alone in the fifth and final playoff spot at 4-4, with one game left in the opening half of Commonwealth Conference play. Lycoming (3-5) is in a pack of teams one game back, and would make the turn in a tie for fifth with a victory tonight.

Previous Meeting

Lycoming upset Albright 80-78 in the Bollman Center last February to advance to the Commonwealth Conference championship game against Alvernia. The loss also hurt Albright's NCAA at-large chances, with the Lions being left out by the committee despite a 20-6 mark.

Lycoming senior Jerald Williams (9 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) had a lay-up roll out with 4:34 left that would have given him the triple-double, after he had pulled down his 10th rebound and taken it down the court. Williams has graduated after leading the nation in both assists (9.9 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.39) in 2012-13.

Pedro Perez finished with 20 points on the day for Albright, and senior Dave Singleton filled the box score with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Both players had go-ahead shots rim out in the final six seconds however.

Albright College Lions (8-7, 4-4)

Albright had moved to 4-2 in the Commonwealth Conference before suffering through a tough week with losses at Hood (61-60) and home to Lebanon Valley (78-57).

Perez (17.2 ppg) had 23 points against Hood, his sixth 20+ point performance of the season. He has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, and has three double-doubles.  Fellow senior Kyle Jordan (13.3 ppg) also has three double-doubles this year, and has eclipsed 20 points twice.

Sophomore center Calvert Gantz has 48 blocks on the season, 19 shy of the school single-season mark. Senior Sam Marella leads the team in assists (55).

Lycoming College Warriors (7-7, 3-5)

Senior Kevin Anthony (16.6 ppg) leads the Warriors in scoring, and earned his 1000th career point earlier this month against Arcadia.

As Gantz makes a run at Albright's blocking school records, Lycoming's Michael Rudy (2.5 bpg) could become the school's all-time leader in the category this week. His 142 career blocks are currently six shy of the mark.
