Albright hosts Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference game that was originally postponed back on December 14.
Previous Meeting
Albright fell 66-50 to #5 Messiah at home last January. Foul trouble and first half turnovers hurt the Lions as they fell to 8-11, 4-8 on the season. Albright shot a solid 47.1% from the floor in the first half but only managed 19 points after committing 16 turnovers.
All-American
Dori Gyori had a double-double for Messiah with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while
Chelsea Danel sank 4-of-6 from behind the arc to finish with a game-high 18 points.
Albright Lions (7-2, 2-1)
Albright has now won five straight after home victories vs. Cabrini and Neumann around the New Year's holiday.
On December 30, the Lions beat defending CSAC champion and NCAA tournament participant Cabrini 58-45 in a game featuring several statistical oddities.
Albright won by double-figures against a good opponent despite committing 34 turnovers, and 22 more giveaways than their opponents. Cabrini shot 0% (0-for-22) from behind the arc. Albright's depth came through as the Lions played most of the second half with both
Kelecia Harris and
Jessica Venturelli on the bench due to foul trouble.
Sophomore
Emily O'Donnell came off the bench to average 13.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg over those last two wins. She totaled 10 points and six rebounds vs. Cabrini, and added 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting in just 17 minutes vs. Neumann, completing a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Messiah Falcons (5-5, 1-2)
The Falcons finished last season as the runners up in the Commonwealth, falling to Lebanon Valley in last year's championship game before advancing to the "Sweet 16" in NCAA postseason play.
Messiah is 5-5 after a trip to California that resulted in tight losses to Chapman (55-54) and Occidental (45-43), despite the Falcons leading for a majority of both contests.
Senior guards Danel (12.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 34 assists, 21 steals) and
Taylor Miller (10.8 ppg, 30 assists) lead the team in minutes played. Freshman forward
Gillian Glackin is leading the team in several categories, averaging 14.0 points and 9.6 rebounds with 24 blocks in just over 25.0 minutes per game.
