READING. Pa. -- The Albright women's basketball team welcomes Keystone College to the Bollman Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the home opener for the Lions.
Albright split a pair of games at the Marymount Tip-Off Tournament last weekend in Arlington, Va., to start the season with a 1-1 record. Keystone, out of the Colonial States Athletic Conference, is 2-1 on the season following a 98-96 victory on Tuesday night at Cazenovia College.
The Lions rebounded on Sunday with a 93-87 victory behind 21 points from
Jane Joyce and 20 points from
Shannon Thomas. The Lions also received 19 points from freshman
Devan Horka.
Horka leads five Albright players who average in double figures in scoring with 19.0 points per contest. Joyce is averaging 13.0 points per game, while Thomas is averaging 12.0 points per outing.
Kelecia Harris averages 12.0 per game and
Jessica Venturelli is averaging 10.0 per contest.
The Lions will attempt to hold down senior guard Ashley Evans, who scored a game-high 31 and hit the game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to lift the Giants to the victory on Tuesday. Evans is averaging 30.3 points per game and is shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc. Evans leads the Giants with 18 three-pointers on the season.
Expect a high scoring affair as Keystone also has five players who average in double figures and are averaging 88.0 points a game while allowing its opponents to score 85.0 a contest.
One place the Lions may have a distinct advantage is on the boards, led by
Kadijah Bishop with 25 rebounds in the first two games averaging 12.5, and Harris who has pulled down 9.0 a game, Albright has a 10.0 rebound a game edge over its opponents. Keystone on the other hand has been outrebounded by over 10 caroms a contest in its first three games.
