Alvernia jumped out to an early lead in game one, as
Amanda Turner and
Aly Shilling hit back to back doubles to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Turner continued her stellar day at the plate, hitting an RBI single to put Alvernia up by three runs.
The Lions put themselves on the board in the fourth inning as senior
Jackie Bohanan singled to knock in
Jalene Garcia, who started the inning off with a base hit.
Following singles from
Shelby Snyder and Garcia, pitcher
Katie Civitello helped her own cause in the fifth inning, bringing home Snyder off of a foul ball down the left field line.
The Crusaders quickly answered back with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, expanding their lead to 5-2.
Albright generated a rally in the seventh inning, producing three runs off three hits and taking advantage of two Alvernia errors.
Amanda Toto reached base on an error, Bohanan singled, and
Marguerite DeLucas reached on a fielder's choice to manufacture the three RBI's for the Lions, tying up the ballgame.
The 5-5 deadlock was finally broken in the bottom of the 10th inning as
Brianna DePriest scored the deciding run on an Albright defensive error, giving the Crusaders the 6-5 victory.
Game two saw significantly less action compared to the offensive battle in game one, as the Alvernia Crusaders held on to a 1-0 victory.
The only run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning as
Samantha Penk singled off of Civitello, who pitched a solid six innings to bounce back from game one.
The Lions nearly tied the game in the top of the seventh following a Toto single and Bohanan reaching on an error, but were unable to manufacture the run in scoring position.
Alvernia's
Brianna Fisher threw seven shutout innings, earning the win, and improving her record to 2-0 on the season.
As a result of today's games, the Albright Lions fell to 3-10, 1-5, while the Alvernia Crusaders improved to 10-4, 2-4 on the season.
Albright won't have to wait long to attempt to get back on the winning track as the Lions host Lebanon Valley College tomorrow for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
