Game One Box ScoreGame Two Box ScoreThe Albright College softball team lost a pair of late leads, with the winning runs coming home unearned, in a doubleheader at Lycoming on Sunday.
Lycoming scored three times in their final at-bats to take the opener 3-2 despite Albright pitcher
Katie Civitello working out of several tough situations to keep the Warriors scoreless through six. The hosts then scored five times in their final two innings to win the nightcap 6-5.
Shelby Snyder led off the game by reaching on an error to second base, and
Jalene Garcia singled down the left field line.
Natalie Carlucci came up and doubled to the right-center gap, bringing both runners home.
Civitello allowed a single and a walk in the second, with
Kelsey Crabb reaching third base on a wild pitch. She got
Ashley Burger to ground out however, ending the threat.
The first two Warrior batters reached in the third inning, and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Civitello got a crucial strike out on
Ashley Witmer, and then
Caroline Lapano grounded out to end the frame.
After allowing just one baserunner in the fourth and fifth innings, Civitello faced another jam in the bottom of the sixth. Lapano and Crabb singled with just one out, but a groundout got the lead runner and
Kali Moeller popped up to the mound for the third out.
Morgan Kunes singled with two out in the seventh to get the tying run to the plate, and then scored on a misplayed fly ball. Witmer doubled down the line to tie the game at 2-2, and then came home on another error for the walkoff win.
Albright jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Civitello (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) doubled in both Carlucci and Snyder; freshman
Amanda Toto doubled to score Civitello and
Jackie Bohanan.
The Lions led 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth but a two-RBI double by Witmer spearheaded a three-run stanza to cut the gap to one.
In the bottom of the sixth, a fielding error allowed Kunes to tie the game, and
Elisa Novak followed with an RBI single to take the lead.
Bohanan reached on a fielder's choice in Albright's final chance and moved to second base, but the Lions were unable to score her.
At 8-17, 4-10, Albright is elimated from Commonwealth playoff contention, although six of those 10 conference losses have been by one run. The Lions will host Penn State-Berks, the former team of head coach
Frank Keating, on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
