Game One Box ScoreGame Two Box ScoreThe Albright College softball team split today's home doubleheader against Penn State Berks, dropping the first game 3-0 but bouncing back to salvage a 7-4 victory in game two.
In game one, PSU Berks opened up the first inning with three runs, only one of which was earned, off of pitcher
Katie Civitello.
The early lead for the PSU Lions proved to be enough as the Albright Lions were unable to put a single run up on the board to match their opponent.
Following the first inning, Civitello held PSU Berks scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The lone hits in the game for Albright came from
Amanda Toto and
Aubrey Koch.
In game two it was Albright who jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as
Natalie Carlucci hit an RBI single to give her team the 1-0 lead.
PSU Berks evened the game up in the top half of the second as
Jenna Heffner scored
Julia Moscato, who singled to start off the inning.
Albright's bats came to life in the third inning when
Jalene Garcia doubled to start the inning and later scored as Civitello helped her own cause by producing an RBI single. Toto chipped in with an RBI single and
Jackie Bohanan added to the lead on a groundout that scored Toto, making the game 4-1.
Garcia singled to score Koch in the fourth inning, adding to the Albright lead and putting PSU Berks at a four-run deficit.
After PSU Berks scored a run in the fifth to make the game 5-2, Albright extended their lead to 7-2 in the sixth scoring two runs off of three hits. Carlucci drove in her second run of the game on a double, and Toto followed suit singling in her second RBI of the game.
Heading into the top of the seventh up 7-2, Civitello was able to hold PSU Berks to two runs in the final inning to salvage the victory for her team.
It was Senior Day for Bohanan and
Marguerite DeLucas, who played their final career home games. Albright head coach
Frank Keating coached PSU Berks last year, leading the Nittany Lions to the NCAA tournament,
Following today's games, Albright's record stands at 9-18 while the PSU Lions go to 22-8 on the season.
