Albright Offense Explodes in Sweep of Hood

Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

The Albright College Softball team put forth a tremendous offensive performance, earning two victories today in a doubleheader against Hood College.

In a game where scoring came in spurts, the Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on three hits, one of them being a two RBI double from Marguerite Delucas.

Hood answered back in the third inning, tying the ballgame on four hits off of pitcher Katie Civitello, who eventually held the Blazers scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The deadlock didn't last long as the Lions broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Civitello helped her own cause, doubling in two runs, and Natalie Carlucci later knocked her pitcher in on an error.

The Lions added to their lead in the sixth inning, scoring three runs off of a Civitello sacrifice fly, an Amanda Toto single, and Jackie Bohanan reaching on an error.

Behind a solid outing on the mound for Civitello, the Lions secured their large lead and won the game by a score of 11-4.

Similar to game one, Hood was able to put themselves on the scoreboard early, scoring five runs in the first inning, but failed to continue chipping away as the game went on.

The Lions cut their deficit to two runs in the bottom half of the first as Delucas drew a bases loaded walk and Bohanan doubled in two runs.

Albright tied the game in the third inning due to back to back doubles by Natalie Carlucci and Amanda Toto, along with Bohanan knocking in her third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly.

The offensive explosion continued for the Lions throughout the game, scoring five in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to go on to take a 13-5 win.

Seniors Bohanan and Carlucci took full advantage of their plate appearances in game two, combining for seven hits and eight RBI's. Bohanan finished the game with three hits and accounted for an outstanding seven RBI's, while Carlucci went 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.

The story of today's doubleheader for the Lions was their prolific offense and Katie Civitello's ability to recuperate after allowing early runs. Civitello earned the win on the mound, shutting the Blazers out after the first inning.

Today's victories improve Albright's record to 5-12, 3-7, while Hood drops to 13-7, 1-3. Tomorrow the team hosts a doubleheader vs. Valley Forge Christian College starting at 1 p.m.
