READING, Pa. -- In search of a victory, the Albright men's basketball team returns to the Bollman Center on Wednesday (Jan. 28) to host Widener in a Commonwealth Conference game scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
The Lions, who have dropped five straight games, enter the contest with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-6 mark in the Commonwealth Conference.
Albright is coming off of a 65-57 loss to rival Alvernia in which the Lions held a nine-point lead in the second half. Freshman
DeJuan Smith tied his career high with 20 points against the Crusaders, while sophomore
Omari Ringgold added 13 points.
Playing in the Bollman Center might just be the cure for Albright as the Lions have posted a 5-4 overall record at home this season. And Widener just might be the right opponent for the Lions as the Pride have dropped seven straight games overall and Albright has beaten Widener four straight times at home.
Ringgold continues to lead Albright in scoring at 13.9 points per game, while
Evan Ward (11.0) and Smith (10.7) also average in double figures for the Lions.
Ward ranks as one of the top rebounders in DIII as he averages 8.6 per game and ranks 47th in the nation averaging 6.6 defensive rebounds per outing. Ward has also found his shooting stroke as he is shooting 58.3 percent from the floor in the last seven games.
Rebounding has been a key for Albright and in the Lions six victories this season they have outrebounded their opponents by an average of 11.8 per game.
Widener enters the contest with a 9-9 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. The Pride defeated Albright 80-77 in overtime in the first meeting between the two teams in December.
