Women's Basketball Hosts Lycoming in Play 4Kay Game

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team returns to the Bollman Center on Saturday (Feb. 7) for a Commonwealth Conference game against Lycoming seeking to halt a two-game losing streak.

The Lions, who are 8-3 in conference play, have dropped back-to-back road contests at Lebanon Valley and Stevenson. Albright is currently in second place in the Commonwealth, one half game ahead of Messiah.

Albright will need to reverse its fortunes in the turnover category if it hopes to return to its winning ways. The Lions have a combined 59 turnovers in the last two games, including a season-high 31 turnovers at Stevenson.

Albright won the first meeting between the two teams by overcoming a three-point halftime deficit on its way to a 61-54 victory. Sophomore Shannon Thomas led the Lions with 14 points, while junior Kelecia Harris scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Freshman Jane Joyce added 11 points, while Emily O'Donnell collected 15 rebounds.

Albright, which is 14-6 overall on the season, boasts a 7-1 record in the Bollman Center this season, which includes a 4-1 mark in conference play at home. Lycoming is 14-7 overall and 6-6 in the Commonwealth Conference.

Harris can also reach a personal milestone on Saturday as she is just 10 points shy of becoming the 14th player in Albright history to score 1,000 career points.

Saturday's game is also the Lions annual breast cancer awareness event. Albright has supported the Play 4Kay initiative in each of the past seven years.

Prior to the game, the Albright athletic department will honor Ellen O'Donnell, the mother of Lion junior Emily O'Donnell, who is a breast cancer survivor.

All proceeds from the game will be donated to the Play 4Kay initiative in support of the fight against breast cancer.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in honor of former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away in 2009. The Play 4Kay initiative has raised nearly $4 million in support of women's cancer research.

The Lions and Warriors will tip off at 2 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
