READING, Pa- One Albright Natatorium record was shattered Saturday afternoon after the completion of the dual meet between Albright women's swim team and Cabrini College. The Lions defeated the Cavaliers 148 to 95.
The highlight of the meet for the Lions was the team's 800 freestyle relay, which consisted of
Ashlyn Chermol,
Julia Wadding, Lauren Finnegan, and
Sam Hand. The foursome, who finished over half a minute over their opponents, completed the relay in 8:18.66.
Albright won eight of the 12 individual events with Wadding and
Corrine Freeland both winning a pair of races. Wadding earned victories in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
In the 200 freestyle, the freshman finished seven seconds ahead of her competition as she completed the race in 2:04.45. The freshman earned a win in the 200 backstroke finishing with a time of 2:19.42. Freeland topped the competition in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. The senior completed the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.00 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:54.21.
Julie McNeil, Chermol,
Alexis Willis, and Faith Guzzzo also captured individual wins in their respective races. McNeil finished ahead of the competition in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.53, while Chermol earned a victory finishing the 200 butterfly in 2:17.62. Willis was the only swimmer to finish the 100 freestyle in less than a minute as the freshman completed the race in 57.01. Guzzo edged out her opponents to finish in first-place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:49.05.
Willis and Freeman, along with
Dayne Martin and
Sammy Murphy, took home top honors in the 200 medley relay. The Lions topped their competition with a time of 2:02.96.
The Lions return to the pool next month when the team travels to West Chester University of Pennsylvania to compete in the two-day Golden Ram Invitational. The first day of competition is Friday, December 9th.
