MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Albright softball team opened Wednesday action with a 6-1 loss to Olivet during its spring break trip.
Olivet broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the fourth inning. The first five hitters of the inning reached base, but the score only stood at 2-0 with the bases loaded and two outs. Olivet's Andrea Rico came through with a bases-clearing double to center field to expand the lead to 5-0.
Olivet added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 6-0, but the Lions got on the board and threatened for more in the top of the sixth.
Lynsie Grant doubled and later scored when
Armida Roman reached on an error.
Kaitlyn Chell walked and
Jessica Rodriguez singled to load the bases, but the Lions couldn't capitalize with any more than the one run in the inning.
Brooke Yerger had two of the Lions' six hits.
In the team's second game of the day,
Lynsie Grant earned her first career victory as the Lions defeated Lancaster Bible, 7-2. The Lions used a five-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Stephany Courtney had a two-run single in the frame, and
Camille Sears recorded one of her three RBIs on the game.
Grant struck out seven batters while allowing six hits in the complete-game victory.
Albright has Thursday off before concluding its Florida trip with a pair of games on Friday.
