Albright Athletics Inducts Four New Members to Hall of Fame

READING, Pa. - A 13-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship gold medalist, a most outstanding swimmer at MAC Championships, an All-American, and a member of two undefeated football teams headline the Albright Hall of Fame Class of 2021. Albright College enshrined Cindy Barner, Eric Daney, Nate Romig, and Steve Simon into its Athletic Hall of Fame during a special reception and dinner in the Schumo Center on the evening of Friday, Sept. 24.
 
 
The 2021 Hall of Fame class joins more than 100 Lions from 150-plus years of athletics competition who have excelled in their sports while at Albright College.
 
 
Cindy Barner (Ikeler) '05 established herself as one of the most decorated athletes in Albright Women's Swimming history during her four years in Reading. Barner earned Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors in 2005, and won the David B. Eavenson Award (Most Outstanding Swimmer at MAC Championships) in her freshman year of 2002.
 
 
Barner won a combined 20 MAC individual and relay gold medals at the championship races, and helped lead the Lions women's swimming team to three conference championship titles in 2002, 2003, and 2005. She still holds three Albright women's swimming program records and one pool record to this date, and ranks in the program top 10 for three different events. Barner also once held five MAC Swimming records at one point. Barner was named the Albright women's swimming team MVP twice, and earned the Albright NCAA Woman of the Year Award in 2005.
 
 
Following graduation, Barner served as an assistant coach on the Albright Swimming teams under John Stuhltrager for six seasons. Barner was then named the head coach of the Cabrini Men's and Women's Swimming teams in 2011, and enters her 10th season as head coach in 2021-22.
 
Eric Daney '06 was a member of the Albright men's swimming team. In his four years on the team, Daney won a combined 13 individual and relay gold medals at the MAC Swimming Championships, and helped lead the Lions to three MAC team championships from 2003 to 2005. He won a pair of gold medals at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Swimming Championships in 2004, and currently ranks in the Albright men's swimming program top 10 for six different events. Daney also once held a pair of MAC records in the 200 backstroke and the 400 IM, and 10 different Albright program records as well. Daney served as a team captain for the Lions and earned the John R. Spannuth award (Most Outstanding Men's Swimmer at Albright) twice.
 
 
Following his graduation from Albright, Daney earned his Master of Science in Educational Leadership at Wilkes University. Daney currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Pottsgrove High School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
 
 
 
 
Nate Romig '10 was one of the most dynamic players in Albright football history. Romig was named a Third Team All-American by D3football.com in 2009, while earning All-MAC first team honors in 2008 and in 2009 at the wide receiver position. He also earned All-MAC second team honors at receiver and returner in 2007.
 
 
Along with his postseason accolades, Romig was a key component in two of the most successful seasons in Albright football history. He was a member of the 2008 Albright football team that won the MAC Championship for the first time in 11 years. Romig then helped the team advance to the 2009 NCAA Division III football quarterfinals for the first time in program history, while setting a new program record with 11 wins. He still holds the school record in career touchdown receptions and ranks in the program top five for all-time points scored.
 
Romig earned his MBA from West Chester University following graduation from Albright, and currently serves as a production manager at Carpenter Technology in Reading.
 
 
Steve Simon '64 was a member of the Albright football and baseball team during his four years in Reading. As a team captain, Simon helped lead the Albright football team to a MAC Championship in 1960, and back-to-back undefeated seasons in 1960 and 1961.
 
 
Simon earned All-MAC second team honors and All-ECAC first team honors in 1961 and 1962. He once held the NCAA Division III record for interceptions in a single-season, and currently ranks in the top five in Albright football program history in career interceptions. On the baseball diamond, Simon earned All-MAC honorable mention in 1962.
 
 
Simon earned his MBA from West Virginia University after graduating from Albright, and served as a management consultant for a number of businesses during his career.
