MISERICORDIA RECAP

Misericordia defeated Albright in the opening conference game of the season 27-21. The story of the game was special teams and defense. Each team had either one defensive or one special teams touchdown. For Albright, Josh Scurry knocked the ball free from the Misericordia tailback forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Samuel Moratori. The scoop and score tied the game at 21-21 at the time before Misericordia added two late field goals to secure the win. Jarren Rutter paced the Lions on the ground totaling 82 yards to go along with a score. Roselli brought in three catches for 31 yards and a score. Daneil Vital had 13 total tackles. Sam Viera added 11 tackles of his own and Omar Sesay added eight solo tackles to round out the trio of tremendous defensive performances.

STRONG DEFENSE

Daniel Vital and Sam Viera have been defensive stalwarts for the Lions so far this season. The Linebacking duo sits at first and third for total tackles per game in the entire MAC conference. Viera checks in at 12.7 tackles per game and Vital boasts a 10.7 per game average. Only three players in the MAC have averaged 10.0 tackles or more per game through the early going of the season. Josh Scurry has forced two fumbles through three games. Scurry's two forced fumbles have him tied at the top of the conference.Vital, Viera and Scurry have led a defense that has only allowed 13 total points in the fourth quarter through three games. The defense for Albright only gets stronger as the game wears on and the stats prove just that.

PLAYER PROFILE

Sam Viera has been a mainstay on the Albright defense since 2018. The Easton, PA native has had a strong career and it has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, Viera was named to the All-MAC Second Team for his efforts that season. So far this year Viera looks poised to add to his personal accolades at the end of the year. Viera has filled up the stat sheet so far in his Albright career. Viera has played in 32 career games for the Lions. In those 32 games Viera has 302 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, eight passes defended, four interceptions and three forced fumbles. Viera's 302 total tackles currently has him at number four since 1982 in Albright's history for tackles. Viera needs 38 more tackles to etch his name firmly in the number three spot all time at Albright.

ALL OVER THE PLACE

Coach Collins has athletes on his roster from all over the country. On the 2022 football roster there are 43 players from PA, 25 from N.J., 24 from MD and 18 from FL. The roster also includes players from UT, Del., GA, TX, S.C. and CA. The nine different states that Albright football represents is a testament to just how good the program has been over the recent years and throughout its history. It is one thing to be able to recruit in your home state but it is a whole other ball game when recruiting out of state. Being in his first year, Coach Collins will look to keep the differentiation in the roster going when he hits the recruiting trail at season's end.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY
