BALTIMORE, Md. The Albright college softball team (6-22) won game one of today's doubleheader 8-7 in extra innings over Notre Dame of Maryland (14-10) and were on their way to a game two win leading 10-6 before the game was suspended due to darkness in the top of the fifth inning.
Game 1: W, 8-7 (8 INN)
Marissa Rovenstine and
Heather Pomante each collected three hits in game one. The duo combined for six hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Albright scored four runs in the top of the first inning sending 10 batters to the plate. The Lions scored two runs via a bases loaded walk and scored the other two runs on RBI singles by
Kathryn Baptiste and Pomante.
The two teams would trade runs through the next six innings. Albright notched runs in the sixth and seventh innings while Notre Dame of Maryland scored in the fifth and sixth innings resulting in a 7-7 game heading to the eighth inning.
Jadelyn Van Winkle was placed on second to start the eighth inning and would come around to score the game winning run on an error by the Gators third baseman. Van Winkle then closed the door in the bottom of the inning on the mound recording two strikeouts and throwing out the game tying run at the plate. Van Winkle earned her team leading third win of the season in game one.
Baptiste finished the day going two for three at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Monica Hernandez,
Slaydon Fisher and
Jordan Melson all tallied one hit for the Lions. Hernandez and Fisher each had a run scored.
Melson finished with two RBIs and a walk and
Madison Lasko finished with two RBIs and two walks.
Game 2: Leading 10-6; Suspended for darkness
Albright scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-6 lead after falling behind early. The Lions sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.
Heather Pomante tallied the big hit of the inning brining home two runs on a single. The single scored Marisa Rovenstine and
Monica Hernandez. Pomante's single sparked the inning, plating the first two runs of the seven run third inning.
Juliette Licata gave the Lions a 5-4 lead in the same frame on an RBI single scoring Pomante.
The Albright bats stayed hot scoring three more runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Slaydon Fisher and Pomnate led off the inning both drawing walks.
Kathryn Baptiste singled in the next at bat to score Fisher from second.
Two more runs came around to score in the inning thanks to Notre Dame of Maryland miscues.
Sadie Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch and
Madison Lasko came around to score on an error after reaching base by a fielder's choice.
