Albright Preforms Well at Two Day D3 Northeast Elite

The Lions played in an elite field of competition and battled throughout the two-day tournament to record back to back impressive team rounds of 298.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.  – Albright concluded the two-day D3 Northeast Elite tournament recording their second straight team score of 298. The Northeast Elite field is one of the best fields Albright will play in all year. The field featured conference champions and many other traditionally strong programs. Albright took home 13th out of 20 teams.

Head men's and women's golf coach Eric Lamm on the overall very successful two days at the Northeast Elite Tournament, ""I am glad we got the opportunity to play and compete among a very strong field this past weekend. The majority of the schools in this tournament won their conference championship last year and competed at the NCAA national tournament. Over the past two days, our young team demonstrated they have the talent and ability to be a northeast regional elite team while feeling right at home in a field of champions!"

Coming into competition this past weekend Albright was seeded 20th out of 20 teams. The Lions improved by seven spots over the two days from their openeing spot to finish in 13th.

The Lions shot back to back team scores of 298. Over the teams last three total rounds and two different tournaments, the Lions have shot under 300 each time. The team is getting better with time and this weekend was no different. Considering the difficulty of the course and the pressure of playing among elite competition, Albright proved why they were apart of the Northeast Elite Shootout this weekend.

For reference, last year, York College won the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Championship with a two-day team score of 593. Albright's team score this weekend came in at 596 over the two days. When the time comes in the spring, the Lions will surely be major players in competing for the MAC Commonwealth crown.

Ben Egin paced the Lions over the two days recording two solid rounds overall including a round of 74 today. Egin needed a birdie on the last hole to secure back to back rounds strong rounds and did just that on the par five 18th.

Egin has been as consistent as they come for Albright over the last two seasons. Out of the Middle Atlantic Conference participants in the field this weekend, Egin placed 2nd.  The two rounds this weekend proved Egin is one of the best players in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Evan Twyman opened the tournament with a 73 and finished with a 76 today for a solid two-day total of 149. Twyman's overall score was good enough to finish better than half the field.

Jonatan Liljeblad shaved four strokes off his score from yesterday shooting a 72 in today's round. The overall score of 149 tied Liljebald with Twyman. Liljeblad had five birdies in today's round including three straight on holes four, five and six.

Elsen was consistent in both of his rounds this weekend shooting a 76 on both days of the tournament. Elsen birdied the sixth hardest hole on the course helping him to another impressive round.

Charles Bailey rounded out the Lions in action over the weekend finishing with a round of 77 today. Bailey was four strokes better today than yesterday. The sophomore Lion is off to a good start in his Albright career having already won three MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Week honors.
