READING, Pa. – The 21
st Yocum Cup between Albright and Alvernia began today at LedgeRock Golf Club. The Lions started fast, securing three of the four points available on day one. The Lions head into Wednesday's singles matches with a 3 ½ to ½ lead over the Golden Wolves.
RESULTS
The Yocum Cup is an annual event against cross-town rival Alvernia. Today, the two sides engaged in four fourball matches. This year's installment of the Yocum Cup marked the 21
th annual. The trophy that is awarded to the winning team and is named after John Yocum Sr.
Points are based off today's four fourball matches and Wednesday's 10 singles matches. You earn one point for each fourball win and one point for every singles match win. If either the fourball matches or singles matches end in a tie, each team earns half a point. The 10 single matches will be Wednesday (Oct. 29) on the second day of the Yocum Cup.
Since Albright are the reigning champions, the Lions will need at least seven total points to retain the Yocum Cup. If the two teams are tied at the end of the second day, the team that won the previous year retains the trophy.
Today's round was played at LedgeRock Golf Club with Alvernia serving as the hosts.
Nontaphat Veeratecha &
Jonatan Liljeblad picked up the first of 3 ½ Lions points today with a 5&4 win. The duo found themselves 5UP after the first six holes. In the match, the Lions did not drop a hole until the eighth but immediately rebounded to win the ninth hole with a birdie.
Evan Twyman &
Federico Cobos Kallmann teed off last but concluded their match second with a lopsided 6&5 win. Twyman and Cobos Kallmann were 1UP through three holes and then won holes four, five and six to take a commanding lead. The tandem closed out the match on the par four 13
th hole with an eagle.
Filip Hjerten &
Sam Elsen's match came down to the 18
th and final hole. Albright's lead grew to 3UP after the 12
th hole. Alvernia battled back, winning the 14
th and 17
th holes. Entering the 18
th hole Albright was still in control at 1UP. The two sides halved the hole allowing Albright to win the match 1UP for the Lions third point of the day.

August Fredrik Alhanko came up clutch to earn a half point in their match. Trailing Alvernia heading into the 18
th hole, Bailey and Alhanko needed to win the 18
th hole to earn half a point. The Golden Wolves carded a seven on the par four opening the door for Albright who carded a five on the hole. Albright won two of the last three holes to collect the all-important half team point.
