NEW TRIPOLI, Pa. – Men's golf wrapped up their two-day tournament this weekend competing in the DeSales Spring Classic. Albright shot a 302 to take second place, finishing just eight strokes shy of traditionally strong program Drew University. The conditions were unfavorable throughout the day as wind gusts reached as high as 30mph.
Drew won the tournament with a two-day total of 586. Albright did not make it easy for the Rangers applying consistent pressure throughout the 36-holes played. The Lions two-day score of 594 was good for second overall.
Coach Lamm and coach Kline are very pleased with the two day performance, "Yesterday, we recorded a new program record and followed that up today with another strong round. Our day one and day two scores demonstrate that the team can compete with all the tops in the northeast region."
Taking third was Scranton with a two-day total of 609. In fourth was Arcadia with a team score of 615 while Salisbury rounded out the top five with a score of 624.
Today's team score of 302 was second only to Drew. Albright's "A" team has been as consistent as they come this season rarely finishing with a team score that exceeds 310.
Four of the five Albright golfers in action this weekend found themselves inside the top 10 after the tournament was all said and done while all five golfers finished inside the top 15.
Jonatan Liljeblad paced the Lions across the two days finishing in a tie for fourth. J. Liljeblad shot a 77 this afternoon. On the back nine, J. Liljeblad was as advertised, playing the nine holes at even par including a birdie on the par four 14
th hole.
Ben Egin was his usual self this afternoon finishing in a tie for sixth shooting a 75 in the second round. Like J. Liljeblad Egin played the back nine at even par birding the same 14
th hole as his Lion teammate.
Sam Elsen tied for ninth shooting a 77. Elsen was steady throughout the round doing a good job of limiting the damage on every hole. Elsen did not record a single double bogey or worse in the 18 holes played today.
Evan Twyman shaved five shots off his first round score this afternoon. Twyman shot a 73 one over par to jolt up the leaderboard and into the top 10. The back nine was kind to the Lions all tournament long. Twyman caught fire on the back nine birding three straight holes from holes 14-16.
Charles Bailey took to the course for the Lions "A" team and shot an 80 in round two. Bailey played the par fives at just one over par including birding the par five eighth hole. Bailey was able to shoot well enough over the two days to secure a top 15 finish.
