WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Men's golf opened play in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational on Monday afternoon at Penn Oaks Golf Club. The Invitational will be 36 holes in total with the Lions shooting a 311 over the first 18 holes.
RESULTS
The field consists of 13 total teams with 11 of them competing in NCAA Division II and Rider in NCAA Division I. Albright is the lone team in the field that competes in NCAA Division III. Albright's round one score of 311 was better than Jefferson, Goldy Beacom, Wilmington, Chestnut Hill and PennWest Clarion. 69 total golfers are competing today and tomorrow. Albright is in eighth place heading into tomorrow.
Albright was represented by
Evan Twyman,
Jason DiRita,
Nontaphat Veeratecha,
Jonatan Liljeblad and Fredrik Alhanko. The top four scores from the five golfers are added together to come up with the team's overall team score.
"Playing the toughest golf course of the year, I was proud to see the team take the challenge head on," said head coach
Eric Lamm. "The team is improving each and every day and has another opportunity tomorrow to compete at a high level."
Twyman led the way in round one with a score of 75. The back nine was exceptional for Twyman as he played the nine holes at even par recording all pars. At the end of day one, Twyman is in T15 place.
DiRita finished one stroke behind teammate Twyman with a round of 76. DiRita tallied two birdies on his way to finishing in T19 place. DiRita finished one stroke off his best round of the 25-26 season thus far.
Veeratecha ended with a 79 and was followed by Liljeblad with an 81. The duo each earned one birdie each in round one ending day one ahead of nearly half the field.
Alhanko recorded an 85 over his 18 holes played today. The round was his first of the spring season.
