The Albright College softball team (1-3) grabbed its first victory of the season, beating Richard Stockton 5-3 before finishing the day with a tough 4-3 loss to Wooster.
The Lions did their damage against Stockton in the bottom of the first, plating five runs. The inning was highlighted by
Alysa Romero's three-run homer that scored
Jackie Bohanan and
Hillary Rodriguez.
Albright managed just two more hits over the last six stanzas, but held on thanks to some solid pitching from
Stephanie Romano (7 IP, 3 ERs, victory). Romero finished the day 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Stephanie Darrow led the Ospreys, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Grace Long was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Against Wooster, Bohanan was 2-for-4, while
Miriah Wilson was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Also contributing was
Brandy Lagomarsino (1-3, run, RBI).
Romero scored on an error in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1, and
Natalie Carlucci singled in Lagomarsino in the next stanza to give Albright the lead.
Wooster scored three runs in a decisive bottom of the fifth however, and held on despite the Lions adding one in the seventh.
Paige Goldberg was 2-for-4 and scored twice, while
Erica Villa was 2-for-3 with a run.
Jenn Horton was solid both on the mound and at the plate, earning the win (7 IP, 1 ER, 3 K's) while also going 2-for-3 and knocking in two runs.
Allie Frank took the loss for Albright, while
Melissa Alimonti threw two one-hit, shutout innings of relief.
The Lions (1-3) face Mt. St. Mary's and Stevens Institute of Technology tomorrow.
