LYCOMING RECAP

The Albright football team fell at home last week to visiting Lycoming College. Lycoming was in control for a majority of the game winning 45-0. With the loss the Lions fall to 0-4 as the middle portion of the conference schedule gets underway. Like previous week's Coach Collins used a two quarterback system. Jarren Rutter and Alex Gardsy both saw time this past weekend under center for Albright. Rutter led the Lions in rushing with 55 yards on only four attempts. The tackling duo of Sam Viera and Daniel Vital continue to lead the Albright defense. Viera totaled 16 tackles and Vital added 12 of his own.

LEADING TACKLERS

The combination of Sam Viera and Daniel Vital have been the best tackling duo in the country. Viera leads all of division three in total tackles with 54. Viera also leads the country in solo tackles with 38. Viera has been a fantastic tackler throughout his Albright career and 2022 is no different. Vital also finds himself as a top tackler in the country. Vital is 10th in the country in total tackles with 44. The senior linebackers are number one and two in the MAC conference as well for total tackles. The duo has led an Albright defense that has only given up five points per fourth quarter in 2022.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

On October 1, 2016 Albright defeated Kings College 27-7. The homecoming game win was the third of eight wins that year for the Lions. The win also marked the third in a row of what eventually turned out to be a seven game win streak during the 2016 season. Alec Vignola and Vinny Williams hooked up for the first score of the day. Vignola found Williams for a two-yard score with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter to cap a 14-play, 79-yard drive to make it 7-0 Lions. Vignola completed 25-of-33 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Kings. Wide receiver Williams had 11 catches for 129 yards and two scores. David Sanchez led the defensive effort with eight tackles and a sack. Nico Williams had six tackles and two sacks on the day for Albright.

BACK ON THE ROAD

Albright is back on the road for just the second time this season and the first time in over a month. The Lions opened the 2022 season on the road against Salisbury. Albright will make the roughly two hour bus trip up interstate 81 to face off against Wilkes College. The home game for Wilkes will also serve as their 2022 Homecoming game. A season ago the Lions found both of their wins on the road and will look to pick up the first win of the 2022 season in the same fashion.

GROUND GAME

Albright has found success on  the ground through the first four games of the season. The rushing attack has been led by Isaiah Shockley who has 183 yards rushing. The running back sits at ninth in the MAC for rushing yards. As a team Albright has rushed for 489 yards total in four games. Over the last three games the Lions have rushed for at least 115 yards. Twice throughout the three game stretch the team has rushed for over 160 yards.

PLAYING WITH DISCIPLINE

Coach Collins' team is one of the least penalized teams in the MAC conference. Only being called for 22 total penalties in four games the Lions have played disciplined football. Albright has only lost 47.5 yards due to penalties per game. The per game average is the fourth best mark in the MAC conference. The least penalized teams are well coached and play for one another and that is no different with the 2022 Albright football team.

ABOUT WILKES UNIVERSITY

Wilkes University is set to play host to Albright College today at 12 p.m. Wilkes comes into the game with a 2-1 overall record. The Colonels won their first two games of the season before losing on the road last weekend at Lebanon Valley College. Wilkes offensive line was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games of September 16-17 as announced by the organization. The offensive line was honored for their performance against Widener. The Colonels offense produced 260 yards on the ground and 341 through the air for a total of 601 yards of total offense. Wilkes has featured a dynamic offense getting it done on the ground and throughout the air. The offense ranks number one in the MAC in points per game with 37.0. The Colonels have scored 16 touchdowns in just three games. Wilkes has been to the red zone 10 times and has scored a touchdown on eight of those trips. The Wilkes defense has been a good complement to the strong offense. The Colonels defense has given up just over 300 yards per game and nine touchdowns in total.
